MADRID IN FOUR DAYS #TRAVEL #SPAIN

I fell in love with this city!
Madrid is an excellent destination for a weekend with your family or your friends.

Madrid is divided in two parts: the south and north of the Puerta del Sol (the centre is a good starting point to visit all the districts).

From the Puerta del Sol square it is easier to discover the city by foot. The city centre of Madrid is not very large so it's really not necessary to use the subway.

Here is the map of Madrid. In its centre, the Puerta del Sol:

DAY 1:

PUERTA DEL SOL SQUARE
Puerta del Sol is one of the nerve centres of Madrid.

PRADO MUSEUM
This gallery in Madrid has the most complete collection of Spanish painting from the  11th     to 18th century, and numerous masterpieces made by great universal artists such as El Greco, Velázquez, Goya, Bosch, Titian, Van Dyck and Rembrandt.

BUEN RETIRO PARK
The Parque del Buen Retiro is the perfect place to lunch on the grass. This 118-hectare park is located in the heart of Madrid and was built between 1630 and 1640.

DAY 2:

NATIONAL MUSEUM - ARTE SOFIA
is the national museum of modern and contemporary Spanish art.

CHUECA QUARTER
The Chueca district is located in the centre of the city of Madrid. The Chueca quarter is the epicentre of gay Madrid and a symbol of modernity, avant-garde and open-minded tolerance. Its streets are a great place for anyone looking for fun, fashion and lots of atmosphere.

SAN ANTON MARKET

This modern refurbished market offers visitors high quality seasonal products in a three-storey building: a traditional market. It is a popular place for shopping, having a snack, going for tapas, tasting gourmet products, etc.

DAY 3:

ROYAL PALACE
Madrid's Royal Palace was built in the 18th century by order of Philip V on the site of the old Alcázar fortress, a former Moorish castle.

ALMUDENA CATHEDRAL
At the end of the 19th Century building work was started on the Almudena Cathedral, which was constructed on the site of the old Santa María la Mayor church to honour the patron virgin of Madrid.

MERCADO DE SAN MIGUEL
The Mercado of San Miguel is an historic and monumental market infused with literary retrospect located in the heart of Madrid’s old quarter, an area with genuine personality and endless shopping, cultural and entertainment options.

PLAZA MAYOR
The Plaza Mayor of Madrid was built in 1690, it is the most famous landmark of Madrid, very lively during the Christmas period and in summer when the terraces invade it.

DAY 4:

DAY TRIP TO SEGOVIA

Segovia, the old quarters of which, along with its Roman aqueduct, are World Heritage Sites, lies on high ground between the Eresma and Clamores Rivers. In addition to its famous aqueduct, numerous Romanesque churches, the Cathedral and Fortress go to form this magnificent landscape that presides over this part of Castile. Its modern Parador Hotel is one of the best places for the visitor to savour the city's most traditional dish: roast suckling pig. Moreover, Segovia is an excellent starting point to tour the province and visit to the La Granja Palace, as well as the Gorges of the Duratón River Nature Reserve, among other attractions.
